Grizzlies, Jenkins on Zach Edey: “We will develop his versatility”

After a season that saw i Memphis Grizzlies be cut early from the fight for the noble positions of the Western Conference, the draft NBA. In a year lacking in talent if compared to recent years, the coaching team Taylor Jenkins he chose Zach Edey. The product center of Purdue it could be a big one steal so much so that coach Jenkins immediately got to work with him.

Last season Edey led Purdue with a 25.2 points, 12.2 rebounds, 2.2 blocks and 2.0 assists shooting 62.3% from the field. Edey stood out for his ability to score very easily inside the paint. Even on a defensive level, his physiognomy allows him to be dominant. Jenkins said at media day that the team is excited to see Edey take advantage of these traits, along with other new ones he hopes to unlock.

Jenkins added: “I will help him develop his versatility, knowing how to shoot threes, knowing how to defend even on the perimeter. I think this guy is fully capable of it. It will take time to adapt to the physicality and speed, game strategies and trends of the championship.”

Edey made just two appearances in the Summer League due to two ankle injuries. Yet, everyone immediately realized how the Purdue center could truly be the revelation of this Draft, after registering 14 points, 15 rebounds, 4 blocks and one assist in his debut and six points and three rebounds in his second game.

Numbers that also impressed his teammates. Ja Morant had nice words about him saying: “ He will be Rookie of the year and it will be so very easily.”
