On the occasion of the Greenweez Paris Major Premier Padel tournament which takes place at Roland Garros from September 28 to October 6, the Spanish Tourist Office shows how this country lends itself to a stay padel. One of the most practiced sports in Spain and which continues to progress on French territory.
“Le padel, this racket sport which is spreading in France” we headlined almost four years ago. It must be said that the discipline continues to progress. To the point that on our soil for three years, and in the temple of tennis at Roland Garros, one of the major tournaments of padel, the Greenweez Paris Major Premier Padel, is taking place. “The first year, there were 25,000 spectators, the second 37,000 and this year on the occasion of the third edition, we will cross the threshold of 60,000 spectators” welcomes Benjamin Tison, former French number 1 and currently responsible high level of the discipline within the French Tennis Federation.
It is in this magical setting of Roland Garros that theSpanish Tourist Office and its tour operator, hotel and hospitality partners invited tourism professionals and the media to discover one of the most practiced sports in Spain. There are between 150,000 and 200,000 tracks (the court where we play padel) compared to around 20,000 in France.
Spain is in fact one of the countries that offer the most options for enjoying this sport all year round, with “high quality fields, both outdoor and indoor, numerous clubs offering improvement courses for all levels and cities which host the most important international circuit tournaments each year, such as the “Premier Padel Tour” or the “A1 Padel”.
In France, where there are 500,000 participants, the La Toupie Bleue agency creates, markets and supports its own tailor-made sports trips in France and… in Spain. We spoke two and a half years ago with its manager Rémi Collat, “soaked in Catalan sport”. Catalonia, which today has more than 30 clubs and around 1,500 tracks or courts on its territory. There are more than 100,000 active players, more than 25,000 of whom are affiliated with the Catalan Federation of Padel (FCP).
In Spain, La Toupie Bleue offers six destinations (Barcelona, Salou, Valencia, Seville, Tenerife and Gran Canaria) where you can improve your skills at padel. As part of these sports trips, the teachers are Spanish, Argentinian, and some speak French in addition to Spanish.
Among the flagship spots in Spain, a special mention for the M3 Padel Academy in Madrid, and the Rafa Nadal Academy located in Manacor on the island of Majorca. A leading sports training center to improve your game.
