New Democracy: The Mitsotakis plan for reunification 2024-10-03 22:38:23

Kyriakos Mitsotakis has invited the members of the Parliamentary Group for a drink and a relaxed discussion ahead of the start of the new term. With a drink or a soft drink in hand, the prime minister will have the opportunity to have a few words with the party’s MPs, but let them talk to him too. This is a move to tighten relations, after the complaints and objections expressed by blue-collar MPs, after the “11” question and the deletion of M. Salma.

New appointment

Three days later, on Friday, there is a new appointment of K. Mitsotakis with the MPs, executives and members of the party outside the historic building at 18 Rigillis, where for many years the offices of the National Democratic Party were. The appointment is for N.D.’s 50th birthday celebration. and the call is about a street party. Apart from the speech of K. Mitsotakis, the aim of the party is to improve the climate in the relations between MPs and executives of the National Democratic Party. with the ministers of the government, but also to get the message that K. Mitsotakis listens to the core of the faction and wants the rewarming of their relations.

However, the standing drink at M. Maximou and the party at Rigillis Street are not the only initiatives that the prime minister is reportedly planning. According to information, he is willing to make the meetings of the Parliamentary Group, as well as the Political Secretariat, more systematic, in order to hear the thoughts and proposals of the MPs and party officials. With the ultimate goal of entertaining the impression that M. Maximou is an inaccessible fortress, in which few make the decisions, in the absence of the deputies and executives.

Already, according to information, the ministers have been instructed to appoint a specific person each, who will respond immediately to the requests of the MPs for a meeting, since the schedule of the ministers does not allow them to meet them themselves. At the same time, for a few days now, ministers have been calling the MPs to present them in detail the legislative initiatives they are preparing, but also to listen to their proposals for changes or additions to the bills that will be tabled.

Climate change

The prime minister, having realized the importance of the gathering of K.O. and the executive body of the ND, but also the negative role played by the arrogant behavior of executives of the staff state towards parliamentarians, he is said to be determined to change the climate and leave political space for the blue-collar parliamentarians, so that they do not feel sidelined and mandated voters of government bills.

Essentially, the moves of K. Mitsotakis, apart from the substantial improvement of relations, are aimed at not replacing the lack of opposition, due to the dissolution of SYRIZA and the introversion of PASOK, by an intra-party opposition, which also puts the ND. in the framework of the broader liquidation policy.

The restart in the relations between the government and parliamentarians is estimated to play an important role in reuniting the electoral base of the ND. Already the measurements after TIF (e.g. Metron Analysis for the unfriendly MEGA) show the first signs of recovery of the N.D., which after the European elections sees its percentage once again written in front of 3 and the difference from second PASOK to remain significantly above 10 points.

According to the data available to M. Maximou, where G. Mylonakis is gaining strength, and the analyzes made by the prime minister’s staff, “so far from national polls and without the pressing dilemma of “who do you want to govern you” the political landscape has problems and discontents, but the N.D. remains the only solution that guarantees the stability of the country”.

No team

As for the “11” that became “10”, after the deletion of M. Salma, they are not considered a “team”. Besides, two of the 11 MPs who had co-signed the question about the red loans, Mr. Karaoglou and Mr. Davakis, are members of the Ethics Committee, which unanimously removed the MP from Etoloakarnania. The assessment of Salma’s deletion is positive from M. Maximou, as it sent a clear double message: “Yes to constructive criticism, no to systematic undermining”. The information says that at least 5 of the 10 MPs, who had signed the question, have informed competently that they do not belong to groups and do not identify with M. Salma.

The reunification of the N.D. it is perceived by the great majority, due to the attitude of business actors, who own SMEs. In addition to the systematic aggression of specific groups against the government, other means are also used. As e.g. the acquisition of a well-known site in the name of the wife of a well-known ship owner, who had tried – unsuccessfully – to support Al. Tsipras and SYRIZA with the creation of a network of regional channels, which, however, never worked. Now, the site in question is not only engaged in a war of personal attrition of K. Mitsotakis, but also targets, as M. Maximou says, his close associates with power and influence, in order to strengthen the war against the “uncontrollable Mitsotakis”.

It is more than obvious that this war will continue with escalating tension, especially if the elections of leaders in SYRIZA, but also in PASOK, do not show persons who will intensify the political liquidation of the two parties, but will at least give traces of “alternative solution”.

Three critical ones votes

In any case, there are still many unclear points in order to shape the political landscape in which the elections will be held in the “distant 2027”. But before that, in the immediate future and shortly thereafter, there are at least three crucial votes:

  1. The passing of the budget, where the vote has the character of a vote of confidence in the government.
  2. The vote for the election of the President of the Republic.
  3. The vote on the content of the revision of the Constitution. These are three votes, which will send a political message to the entire electoral base of the ND.
