Horner: I’m surprised Toto didn’t kick Ricciardo out of the pits

Christian Horner believes Daniel Ricciardo had an important influence on Max Verstappen’s development when the Dutch driver moved to Red Bull Racing. Speaking about the Australian driver on the F1 Nation podcast, Horner recalled a funny episode when Daniel went to the Mercedes pits and began filming parts of the car that interested Red Bull engineers.

Christian Horner: “I think Max actually learned a lot from him. When Max first joined the team, he was much younger, such a young puppy. And Daniel had a great influence on Max, showing that you don’t need to take everything in life too seriously, and how important it is to enjoy the moment.

Daniel loved what he did. He was very proud of being a Formula 1 driver. And Daniel did all sorts of stupid things.

One day he took a camera from a cameraman and went with it to the Mercedes pits. It was unheard of! I’m surprised Toto Wolff didn’t kick him out as soon as he started removing their car’s brake ducts and everything else we were interested in.

Riccardo is a good singer and a good musician. He was never shy about trying something new.”
