A Saudi request before facing Iranian Esteghlal in the AFC Champions League

Al-Nasr’s third match is scheduled to be held against Esteghlal Club in its stronghold in the Iranian capital, Tehran, on the 22nd of this month, while it will host Pakhtakor of Uzbekistan on the 25th of next month.

The Saudi Al-Riyadiya newspaper quoted an official source in Al-Nasr Club management as saying that the club has not yet submitted an official request to the Asian Confederation to move the awaited confrontation to the continent, and that they are monitoring the situation and working to move the match to neutral territory during the next few days.

The AFC is closely following the matter to determine the fate of Asian matches, whether related to the Iranian national team or local clubs in the various Asian championships.

The AFC is expected to issue an official statement within the next few days on this issue, to clarify the current situation and the final position on holding matches in Iran.

Al-Nasr’s balance in the continental championship is 4 points from a 1-1 draw against the Iraqi police away from home, and a victory over the Qatari club Al-Rayyan in Riyadh last Monday.

The matches of the Saudi and Iranian clubs were played on neutral grounds since the 2016 continental championship, by decision of the Asian Confederation, and the Saudi teams at that time, Al-Hilal, Al-Nasr and Al-Ahly, played their matches in Qatar, while the Iranian clubs chose the Omani capital, Muscat, and the Emirati city of Dubai as a place to play their matches, before the Iranian clubs returned. To host continental matches on its stadiums from the last edition.

Al-Nasr team won against Al-Rayyan with a score of 2-0 in the match that was held between them at Al-Awal Park Stadium in the second round of the league stage in the Al-Gharb region group, in the AFC Champions League Elite Championship this season.

Iran fired a large number of missiles at Israel last Tuesday, amid fears of the latter’s response in the coming days.
