Transport professionals under the banner of the Moroccan Association for Transcontinental Road Transport (AMTRI) have threatened to go on open strikes, due to the constraints the sector is facing.

They stressed that procrastination in responding to their demand to discuss these restrictions directly means pushing professionals to escalate during the coming periods, which could negatively affect the national economy and the export and import movement.

In this context, the professionals revealed that there is a group of accumulated problems for which the guardian ministry has not found solutions, most notably the problem of fuel and support, in addition to the harassment they are exposed to by candidates for clandestine immigration, as well as other problems related to customs inspections.

The same professionals stressed that all these obstacles weaken Moroccan competition with the Europeans, especially the French and Spanish, threatening to resort to a work strike during the coming stages if the Ministry of Transport and Logistics does not respond.

In response to this issue, Al-Sharqi Al-Hashemi, a member of the Moroccan Association for Transcontinental Road Transport, revealed that “the sector today lives under the influence of a group of obstacles and problems that do not provide the right atmosphere for professionals to work and compete with their European neighbors.”

Al-Hashemi, a union activist in the Souss-Massa region, stated that among these problems “are related to some inspections at the port of Tangier, which are concerned with examining fuel tanks in search of prohibited contraband,” explaining: “We support inspection, but it must be done using advanced scanners and at a minimum.” Possible period of time.

The same speaker highlighted that “professionals have faced and are still facing a number of problems, including the interruptions and inadequacy of gasoline support,” as well as “the absence of protection from the problems caused by candidates for clandestine immigration on the Kingdom’s roads, in addition to theft as well.”

The union activist concluded that “the entry of professionals into any future escalation or strike, if their demands are not met, will mean a severe impact on the national economy as a whole, on the mobility of national ports, and on the level of availability of products imported from abroad in the Kingdom.”
