Israel is keeping its cards under wraps, but a possible date for a “response” to Iran, based on estimates, would be before April 22 or after April 29, that is, before or after the Jewish Passover. The big issue, however, is the form the attack will take, as Israel has started talking about a reaction with strategic prudence, says the head of International News of ERTNews, in the detailed news bulletin.
Israel is called upon to achieve multiple goals at the same time:
to convey to Iran that challenges do not go unanswered,
without risking regional conflict
and without risking the support of the West and the Sunni world in the Middle East, who rushed to support it, at a time when everyone had lost patience with them, because of the war in Gaza.
Regarding the form that the Israeli reaction is going to take, with strategic prudence there are the following scenarios:
A major attack on a target outside of Iran, for example a strike on a Revolutionary Guards base in Syria.
An attack inside Iran against a more symbolic target for which they would have received approval from Washington.
Neutralizing targets inside Iran with the help of the Mossad.
Israel’s need to restore credibility after Iran’s attack – The lesson
The journalist of ERTNews, Nikos Meletis, spoke about the overturning of data in the Middle East that occurred for the first time as “red lines” were crossed.
The “red line” of Israel’s deterrence doctrine is that any state that attempts an attack against it will pay dearly, and this magnifies and makes the choice of response to Iran’s attack more difficult.
A strike is needed that, without leading to a regional conflict that even Israel itself does not want, restores the credibility of its deterrence.
The main lesson from the last war fronts is that there is no easy permanent and perfect deterrence. The other lesson not only from Israel but also from Ukraine, the Caucasus, Libya is that the way war is waged has changed and is constantly changing. Anyone who doesn’t adapt to change dies.
Nikos Dendias invokes these changes and prioritizes anti-aircraft defense. The Minister of National Defense raises the question of adaptation for the creation of an anti-aircraft – anti-drone dome, which will cover the long line from Evros to Kastellorizo.
It is recalled that Israel has wasted huge sums of money recruiting the best potential of the Jewish diaspora in cooperation with the USA, a process that started mainly after the attack received by Iraq in 1991. The famous Iron Dome was built after the Lebanon war in 2006 , while the Arrow anti-ballistic system was made in collaboration with the USA.
It is worth noting that it is extremely expensive. Repelling the attack on Saturday cost Israel $1.3 billion.
