The Carter Center shows electoral “reports” that give “victory” to Edmundo González

The Carter Center, an American organization that was an electoral observer in the Venezuelan presidential elections on July 28, showed this Wednesday before the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS) alleged original voting records that would give victory to the opponent Edmundo González Urrutia .

“It was sent to me by mail, I am going to show it to you after this session so that you can see it. These are original minutes from Venezuela that have a QR code that is significant and that allows witnesses from thousands and thousands of tables collect information systematically,” said the Carter Center’s senior advisor for Latin America, Jennie Lincoln, during an OAS session held in Washington.

The minutes would show that the standard bearer of the main Venezuelan opposition platform, Edmundo González Urrutia, won the elections with 67% of the votes, while the current president, Nicolás Maduro, would have obtained 31%.

The National Electoral Council (CNE), however, maintains that Maduro was re-elected in those elections, despite the fact that it has not published the minutes with the disaggregated results.

“The lack of transparency of the Venezuelan CNE and its refusal to provide the data from its machine tables and the minutes to explain the declaration of a winner does not meet international standards,” Lincoln said during his speech.

In the same session, the Secretary General of the OAS, Luis Almagro, declared that “the electoral process was from the beginning one of the worst things that can be committed.”

“As expected, it was neither free, fair nor transparent. As expected, it was done in violation of signed agreements” and a fraudulent result was announced, Almagro said.

The US Carter Center and a small delegation from the United Nations were the only ones able to bring independent electoral representation to observe the voting process in the Venezuelan elections on July 28.

The electoral body of Venezuela had granted the re-election of Maduro as head of state with 51.95% of the votes compared to the 43.18% of support obtained by González Urrutia, with 96.87% of the minutes scrutinized.
