Matthew Perry: His doctor pleads guilty

The 54-year-old, in particular, pleaded guilty to the charge of “conspiracy to distribute ketamine”. A guilty plea carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison.

Earlier in September, Chavez accepted a plea deal with prosecutors to avoid trial. Through his lawyer, Matt Binninger, he said he was “remorseful” for his actions. “My client accepts (his) responsibility. “He’s doing everything he can to cooperate … and he’s incredibly remorseful,” Matt Binninger told reporters outside court.

Another doctor, Salvador Placencia known as “Dr P”, is accused of buying ketamine from Chavez to sell at a much higher price to Matthew Perry. Jasvin Sangha, known as the “queen of ketamine”, is accused of supplying the dose that killed the 54-year-old actor.

Their trial is scheduled for October. Matthew Perry, it should be noted, was taking ketamine six to eight times a day before he died, according to court documents.

Matthew Perry – What is Ketamine

Ketamine is a drug primarily used to induce and maintain anesthesia. It causes dissociative anesthesia, a trance-like state that provides pain relief, sedation and amnesia. The special features of anesthesia with ketamine are preservation of breathing and airway reflexes, stimulation of cardiac function with increased blood pressure, and moderate bronchodilation. At lower, subanesthetic doses, ketamine is a promising agent for treatment-resistant pain and depression.

Psychiatric side effects are common as well as increased blood pressure and nausea. Hepatotoxicity and urinary tract toxicity are common in regular recreational users of high doses of ketamine. Ketamine is an NMDA receptor antagonist, and this accounts for most of its actions other than its antidepressant effect, the mechanism of which is the subject of much research and debate.
