Syria repelled missile attack also sent by Israel

Powerful explosions were heard in the early hours of Tuesday in different parts of the Syrian capital and its surroundings, resulting from an Israeli missile attack.

The hostile action lasted more than an hour with four waves of projectiles, while the air defense batteries were activated and managed to shoot down several of the projectiles.

In the capital’s Mezzeh neighborhood, a car burned after being hit by one of the missiles, while Syrian television confirmed the death of journalist and presenter Safaa Ahmed in the attack. Military sources consulted by Prensa Latina indicated that this is one of the most violent attacks by Israel and regretted that at least two anti-aircraft defense batteries were hit while trying to repel the attack.

The attack came a day after an Israeli bombardment of the Jedeidet Yabus border crossing with Lebanon destroyed a two-storey building and injured several people.

On Sunday, Syrian air defense units repelled two Israeli missile and drone attacks in areas bordering Lebanon, in the provinces of Homs and Damascus.

The Ministry of Defense also confirmed last Friday the death of five uniformed personnel in an Israeli air strike against a military point on the border with the country of the Cedars.

The day before, eight workers and several civilians, including children arriving from Lebanon, were injured after an attack by Zionist forces on a bridge at the Mattraba border crossing.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has warned of continued international silence regarding Tel Aviv’s ongoing violations and crimes committed in the occupied Palestinian territories, Lebanon and Syria.

These attacks demonstrate Israel’s contempt for all international laws and conventions, and its violations of international law, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
