The Health Insurance medical service is in danger. The national fund will present to the union organizations, this Thursday, October 3, 2024, the project to eliminate this service. The CPAM wishes to integrate it within the Primary Funds.

Major consequences: the attack on the independence of these doctors and fears for medical confidentiality.

Health Insurance is divided into two services: the administration and the medical service. The latter gives in particular “notices concerning sick leave, occupational illnesses, work accidents, long-term illnesses, disabilities, retirement for incapacity”. In a press release, the inter-union indicates that “these medical opinions given in complete independence are binding on the Funds which, in turn, pay the services”. From April 2025, the management of the national fund wishes to eliminate the medical service and place it under the management of the primary funds.

Throughout France, more than 7,000 medical and administrative employees would be affected. In Occitania, there would be 600. “The announcement was brutal. It stunned us and caused anxiety about the future of our profession,” explains Anne Matillo, doctor at the Montpellier health insurance medical service.

Today, when someone is on sick leave, the doctors in the Health Insurance medical service know for what reasons. The funds are not kept informed of these reasons. Tomorrow, the cash registers could know everything. “Until now, the medical data of policyholders has been ultra-protected, but until when?” asks Anne Matillo. “With the disappearance of the medical service, there would therefore be a shift towards an accounting logic as well as a threat to medical confidentiality”, details the press release. Sixty million policyholders could be affected.

The unions are calling for a massive strike day on Thursday October 3 and a rally at 11 a.m. in front of the CPAMs in Toulouse and Montpellier.
