Road traffic controls continue throughout Elba carried out by the Carabinieri of the Operational and Radiomobile Unit of Portoferraio, in order to guarantee safety on the island’s roads.
During the last reports, a patrol from the Radiomobile Unit of the Portoferraio Company stopped for a check a scooter driven by a 60-year-old islander, following which it emerged that he had been driving with an expired license for almost 16 years. Further checks by the military made it possible to ascertain that the vehicle had also been without insurance coverage for 4 years and that the last inspection had been carried out in 2019. The scooter was immediately seized and a fine of around 1,500 euros was imposed on the offender.
Since the beginning of the year, the Carabinieri Operational Unit and Radiomobile of Portoferraio have issued over 250 fines to the highway code, all for dangerous driving behavior and attitudes, as well as for lack of insurance coverage and expired inspections.
