Vietnam-Canada consolidates cooperative relations between the two legislative bodies

Ottawa (VNA) – On the occasion of his working visit to Canada, Vice-President of the National Assembly (NA) of Vietnam Nguyen Duc Hai met on October 1 with the Speakers of the Senate and the House of Commons of Canada.

The Vietnamese NA delegation’s visit aimed to discuss cooperation in the fields of green economy, digital transformation, urban planning and management, as well as issues related to budget, service of the development of the laws of Vietnam in the times to come.

It also made it possible to strengthen cooperation between the NA commissions and the exchange of delegations between the two parties.

Meeting with the President of the Canadian Senate, Raymonde Gagné, Nguyen Duc Hai said that Vietnam attaches importance to its relations with Canada and wishes to promote comprehensive partnership, on the basis of mutually beneficial cooperation, contributing to the peace, stability and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region and around the world. He also praised Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy.

For her part, Raymonde Gagné expressed her solidarity with the Vietnamese people following the damage caused by the typhoon. Canada was one of the first countries to provide emergency aid of 560,000 Canadian dollars to help the inhabitants of the northern provinces of Vietnam overcome the consequences of this typhoon, the most powerful in 70 years.

During the meeting with the Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada Greg Fegus, the Vietnamese leader expressed the hope of continuing to receive support from Canada regarding the fight against climate change and improving the living conditions of the population.

Greg Fegus affirmed the importance he attaches to the comprehensive partnership with Vietnam, while emphasizing Vietnam’s important role within ASEAN. He also praised the contributions of the Vietnamese community in Canada, saying that it is one of the exemplary communities that contribute to the cultural diversity of his country.

The Vietnamese delegation informed about the main activities within the framework of bilateral relations as well as potentials and opportunities for future cooperation between the two sides. She also met members of the Vietnamese community in Canada and carried out several activities to learn more about the culture and economic activities of Canada in general. -VNA
