Indonesia’s leading steel company, PT Gunung Raja Paksi Tbk (GRP) is actively supporting the transformation of the green industry and achieving the Net Zero Emission (NZE) target, as announced by the Ministry of Industry. This target is the achievement of Net Zero Emissions (NZE) by 2050 or ten years faster than the national target set in 2060.

GRP launches environmental, social and corporate governance guidance strategy or environmental social governance (ESG) strategy guidebook in 2022, as a guide for implementing the company’s decarbonization program.

“PT Gunung Raja Paksi is committed to taking an active role in Indonesia’s journey towards Net Zero Emissions. This includes supporting the transformation of green industry and achieving the NZE target as announced by the Ministry of Industry, namely in 2025 or faster than the national target of 2060,” said President Director of GRP Fedaus in official statement, Friday (27/9).

Several initiatives that are already underway include the operation of a rooftop solar power plant (PLTS) with a total capacity of 9.3 megawatt peak which is in West Java.

This installation is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 47,400 tonnes of CO2 per year, with plans to increase capacity to 33 megawatt peak in the future.

“GRP also does it feasibility study or a feasibility study with Fortescue for the use of renewable energy based on green hydrogen,” he said.

Most recently, continued Fedaus, GRP collaborated with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank group, to disburse investment worth US$ 60 million to increase production of low-carbon steel.

“This collaboration is the first in the Asian steel industry in the last decade, and marks an important step in the transformation towards a more sustainable steel industry,” he said.

With this series of strategic steps, GRP confirms its commitment to strengthening its position as a leader in the sustainable steel industry, supporting the achievement of national targets towards a future without carbon emissions. (N-2)
