The Indonesian junior badminton team achieved their third victory in the 2024 Suhandinata Cup group F stage after overcoming Sri Lanka’s resistance.

Competing at the Nanchang International Sports Center Gymnasium on Tuesday (1/10) afternoon, the Young Red and White won 110-62.

Moh Zaki Ubaidillah (Ubed), who was trusted to compete again, opened the scoring after beating Thilina Rajakaruna 11-5. Followed by Isyana Syahira Meida/Rinjani Kwinara Nastine and Mutiara Ayu Pusiptasari who contributed to the victory.

Indonesia widened the gap to 44-19 through contributions from Taufik Aderya/Clairine Yustin Mulia who were ahead of Shenuk Samararatne/Ranithma Liyanage. Before Dexter Farrell/Wahyu Agung Prasetyo closed the first half with a 55-28 lead.

“From these three matches, we have to maintain our focus again, the air in the match must not let down. We played quite well earlier, it was different when we played in the first match yesterday against Macau. We felt nervous and excited,” said Taufik in his statement, Tuesday (1 /10).

Opening the second half, Richie Duta Richardo, who played second singles, faced fierce resistance from Thilina Rajakaruna, the same opponent as Ubed’s opponent in the first match. Rajakaruna succeeded in stealing 10 points before Richie successfully finished the match 66-38.

“The condition of the field was different from when I went down yesterday so the start wasn’t fast enough. I lost to an opponent who had gone down first in the first match,” said Richie.

“This is a lesson for me to be able to adapt more quickly. Evaluation is also to reduce my own mistakes,” added Richie.

Entering the seventh match, women’s doubles Riska Anggraini/Salsabila Zahra Aulia also contributed to the victory. They beat Varangana Jayawardana/Rashmi Mudalige with a score of 77-43.

What’s interesting is that in this match, Riska/Salsa were plotted to be the first women’s doubles, while Isyana/Rinjani, who were ranked higher, were ranked second in the women’s doubles. This is indeed legal to do in the doubles sector in the relay point game system.

“Today we are trusted to play as the first doubles and we are ready. In the future, if we are trusted as part of the strategy, we will always be ready to play in any position. We will give our best for Indonesia,” said Salsa.

After that, Indonesia became even more unstoppable through the neat performances of Ni Kadek Dhinda Amartya Pratiwi, Darren Aurelius/Bernadine Anindya Wardana and Anselmus Breagit Fredy Prasetya/Pulung Ramadhan.
