Paris ring road at 50 km/h: why the radars won’t start flashing…

Since this Tuesday, October 1, 2024, the maximum speed on the Paris ring road has been limited to 50 km/h between the Lilac Gate and the Porte d’Orléans. Guest of franceinfoDavid Belliard, deputy mayor of Paris in charge of the transformation of public space and mobility, made some confidences about the sanctions in the event of excessive speed.

A gentle change

Like the 160 “70” road signs which will gradually be changed to make way for those indicating “50”, the radars have not yet been adapted. “It will be up to the police headquarters, since it is its role, to guarantee compliance with the rules and the law and therefore to pass these radars at 50 km/h,” said the elected official.

An update which should take place on October 10, 2024when the speed has slowed down throughout the ring road.

Because for now, a single portion of the boulevard is affected by the limitation. The changes will be made gradually, following this schedule:

– Wednesday October 2: the interior portion between Porte d’Orléans and Porte Dauphine

– Thursday October 3: the part of the outer ring road between Porte de Bagnolet and Porte Maillot

– Friday October 4: the section of the inner ring road between Porte Dauphine and Porte des Lilas

– Wednesday October 9: the section of the outer ring road between Porte Maillot and Porte de Châtillon

– Thursday October 10: between Porte de Châtillon and Porte de Bagnolet on the outer ring road

With this measure, Anne Hidalgo, the mayor of Paris, intends to reduce accidents and their severity but above all reduce air pollution et sound. “500,000 people live around the ring road,” recalls David Belliard.
