Man injured three children with knife in Zurich

The suspect was arrested a short time later. According to the police, the crime occurred when an employee was on her way from a kindergarten to the after-school care center with several children. The after-school care worker overpowered the attacker with the help of a passer-by. The two held him until emergency services arrived.

The officers then arrested the Chinese man without resistance. There is no information yet on the motive. It is also unknown what connection the arrested person has with the children or the after-school care center.

Large-scale police operation

The three injured people received medical care on site and were then driven to hospitals by the rescue team. The other two injured children are also five-year-olds. Specialists from the Zurich Forensic Institute and the Institute of Forensic Medicine have been called in to secure the evidence. The Zurich cantonal police and the responsible public prosecutor’s office are now continuing the investigation.

The executive was alerted to the attack on Zurich’s Berninastrasse shortly after 12 p.m. Numerous police vehicles could be seen in photos. Armed police were on duty. Berninastrasse in a district around five kilometers north of Lake Zurich was cordoned off over a large area. A woman told the online portal “20 Minutes” that the police were leading parents into the building. The police had set up a hotline for relatives.
