Crocodile Gin is a very modern and innovative sounding independent single, written by Timothy Tercero for LLA.
“The inspiration for the lyrics came from a line that came to me while I was improvising on the bass line: “You climbed up like a crocodile and bit my ear playfully.” This image sparked the story of a crocodile lady preying on a love-hungry man, and the rest of the story went from there.”, Tercero told Klangsketcherei about his songs and themes in a large interview.
People find and try new things, such as recreating crocodile sound effects: “I thought I’d play around with the Old Noise Blood Endeavors’ MAW mic processor. I thought it was one of those fun silly shots that I didn’t think I’d ever consider using, but then I loved it. Tercero explained.
Influences on Tercero include Queens of the Stone Age. All you can hear is mostly muffled bass, which cuts across the vastness of America like desert rock.
I think it also has a bit of a hoax, it was produced by Josh Homme, and it has a bit of Alex Turner’s voice.
At first glance, the chorus may seem a little underwhelming, but the song grows after a few listens. The vocal melody in the chorus begins to dance rhythmically to the swinging drum beat and bass notes. This dance of the vocal melody with the instruments in the verse and chorus is the most beautiful thing about the song.
