GOTHENBURG. Ten straight Allsvenskan matches without a win.
But in the messy derby at home against Gais, the long-awaited three-pointer came for IFK Gothenburg.
– It is difficult to put into words this victory, it was so important for us, says match hero Laurs Skjellerup after the 2-0 victory.
It has hardly been IFK Gothenburg’s season.
But maybe three points after an intense Gothenburg derby can give air under the wings for the rest of the autumn.

Slammed hard
At Gamla Ullevi, the derby feeling was palpable on the pitch. There was wild banging from both sides and the tackles were handed out to the right and left.
In the middle of it all, IFK Göteborg took the lead.
In the 36th minute, the ball found its way to Kolbeinn Thordarson, who splashed the ball into the roof of the net.
Suspended for 45 minutes
The second half barely had time to start before it was interrupted for nearly 45 minutes. This after, among other things, shots had gone off in the stands.
Once it started again, it took a quarter of an hour before Blåvitt had expanded.
Newly substituted Anders Trondsen sent in a low pass to Laurs Skjellerup, who stayed just on the right side, whereupon he bumped in 2–0.
It also continued to hit hard in the second half.
Among other things, Gothenburg’s Adam Carlén and Axel Henriksson clashed. The former was heavily patched up on the field and the latter, who has been withdrawn with a head injury, was replaced.
In added time, Gothenburg’s Paulos Abraham was also replaced injured after his foot got stuck under Gais Amin Boudri.
Lasted for almost three hours
In other words, there were plenty of shots, but there were no more goals after Skjellerup’s 2-0.
– The intensity was at a high level. But we knew it would be. I love matches like this and I think many others do. It feels fantastic, says Skjellerup.
When all was said and done, almost three hours after the match started, it was Gothenburg who left Gamla Ullevi as derby winners.
Gothenburg now lifts two places and is three points ahead of Halmstad in a negative qualifying place.
