THE HAGUE – The Netherlands will not send development aid abroad for the time being. The money saved will be used for the victims of the storm Aitor that hit our country on Friday morning.
The coastal provinces were particularly hard hit by the autumn storm Aitor. In some places there were wind gusts of up to 80 kilometers per hour. The strong wind was accompanied by heavy rain showers. PVV Minister Reinette Klever immediately halted all development aid abroad, so that money and resources are freed up to help the victims of the storm.
“I have also seen the images from Zeeland, South Holland and North Holland. Cyclists who had to pedal against the wind, white elderly people who got soaking wet on the way to the supermarket, horrible to see,” said Minister Klever.

The consequences of the storm are clearly visible here in Vlissingen.
Because of the storm, Minister Klever has decided to immediately freeze all development aid abroad: “It goes without saying that I immediately released money for the indigenous victims of this storm. Reconstruction aid in Ukraine, food aid in Yemen and aid to people of the wrong color may perhaps be resumed at a later date. We are now going to help the Dutch first.”
