The Palestinian movement Hamas said on Monday (30/9) that Israel killed its commander in Lebanon in an airstrike that hit his house in the El-Buss refugee camp, southern Lebanon.
In a statement, Hamas said, “We mourn the martyrdom of Fateh Sharif, the commander of Hamas in Lebanon and a member of the leadership of the movement abroad.”
Sharif, along with his wife Umayya Ibrahim Abdel Hamid, son Amin, and daughter Wafa, were killed in an airstrike on Monday morning, according to the statement.
Earlier, Lebanon’s official news agency reported that Israeli aircraft targeted the El-Buss camp near the city of Tyre for the first time.
Since the start of Israel’s war on Gaza and clashes with Hezbollah since October last year, the Israeli military has killed several Hamas officials and fighters, including members of its military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, in Lebanon.
Other major killings in Lebanon include the deputy head of Hamas’s political bureau, Saleh al-Arouri, in January, and Hezbollah leader, Fouad Shukr, in July.

Since September 23, Israel has launched its most intensive and widespread offensive against Lebanon since clashes with Hezbollah began almost a year ago.
The ongoing Israeli offensive has killed at least 916 people, including women and children, and injured 2,709 others, according to data from Lebanese authorities.
Fears of a wider regional war have increased after Israel killed several Hezbollah leaders, especially the group’s Secretary General, Hassan Nasrallah.
Nasrallah was killed in an airstrike on Friday night. At that time, Israel reportedly dropped 85 tons of bombs on targets in the Haret Hreik neighborhood, a Hezbollah stronghold in southern Beirut. (Ant/Z-2)
