German Ice Hockey League: Eisbären Berlin win 4:2 in Straubing

The Eisbären Berlin have found their way back to success in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) after two defeats. On Tuesday evening, the reigning German champions won 4:2 (1:2, 1:0, 2:0) at the Straubing Tigers after being 2-0 down. Yannick Veilleux scored two goals, and Leonhard Pföderl and Blaine Byron also scored for the Berliners, who put in a convincing performance despite major personnel concerns.

In front of 4,215 spectators in the ice rink at the Pulverturm, both teams fought tough duels from the start and consistently capitalized on their few clear chances in the opening third. Adrian Klein scored for the home team in the 11th minute, Tim Fleischer extended the lead with a powerplay goal (14th). However, the Berliners were able to reduce their deficit a little later with a goal from Veilleux (15th).

The Berliners improve significantly in the second third

After the first break, the guests started powerfully, Pföderl equalized (22′). The Berliners remained the much more dangerous team after that and took the lead for the first time shortly after the start of the final period with a goal from Byron (42nd).

Afterwards, the guests, who had to do without seven injured or sick professionals, confidently defended their narrow lead. Veilleux made the final score with his second goal after Straubing goalie Florian Bugl left the ice in favor of an additional field player (59′).
