Jan Lipavský requested the termination of membership in the Pirate Party. At the same time, he confirmed that he will hand over his resignation as foreign minister to Prime Minister Petar Fial (ODS) on Tuesday. He announced this to former party members on their Internet forum. Lipavský has been a member of the Pirates since autumn 2015.

Lipavský said that he respects the results of the membership vote on the end of the Pirates in the government. However, he does not agree with the departure of the Pirates to the opposition, and in some respects he differs from the party in opinion, he noted.

The outgoing chairman of the Pirates, Ivan Bartoš, respects Lipavský’s decision, as well as his previous work, he told journalists at a press conference before the session of the House of Representatives.
“I’m glad that he had the opportunity as an MP for the Pirates and subsequently as a minister for the Pirates and the space to really grow professionally and develop his potential,” he said.
According to Bartoš, whether Lipavský will remain in the government for the last year until the parliamentary elections is purely his decision.

The pirate deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Olga Richterová, told reporters in the House of Representatives that Lipavský grew up in the opposition during the previous election period. According to her, the pirates gave the Czech Republic a great minister of foreign affairs. He considers leaving the party to be his personal matter.
“He has been announcing his dissatisfaction with the party for a long time. Personally, I have mixed feelings about the decision, but it’s his way and his choice,” she noted.
Lipavský then thanked the Pirates for all the opportunities he got thanks to them. “I also thank you for the many personal friendships and unforgettable experiences. I always valued the open internal party discussion, which I liked to enter, projecting into it my ideas about the functioning of the centrist and liberal party, including the effort to fundamentally reform the internal functioning,” he added to the party members.
Lipavský as a non-partisan?
Fiala said on Monday that he could imagine Lipavský remaining in the cabinet as a non-party member if all four parties in the government coalition agreed. He negotiated with the head of diplomacy, Lipavský has not yet commented on his possible future in the cabinet.
On Monday, President Petr Pavel accepted Fial’s proposal for Bartoš’s dismissal from the position of Deputy Prime Minister for Digitization and Minister for Regional Development. At the same time, he agreed to entrust the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Marian Jurečka (KDU-ČSL), with the temporary performance of the minister’s duties from today.
In addition to Lipavský, the Minister for Legislation, Michal Šalomoun, will also hand in his resignation. Fiala will not propose filling his post, nor will the position of deputy prime minister for digitization, which was held by Bartoš.
