SEAWOLVES want to take the Ludwigsburg Fortress

The ROSTOCK SEAWOLVES are still unbeaten after two games in the easyCredit Basketball Bundesliga season 2024/2025 and will face the MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg on Wednesday (October 2nd). The game starts at 8:00 p.m. and runs from 7:45 p.m live on DYN commented by Chris Schmidt.

The SEAWOLVES were leading the table until Monday before the game between Braunschweig and Ludwigsburg pushed the Wolves into second place. The reason: Lower Saxony won against the giants 91:71 and took top position. Within 48 hours, Ludwigsburg is in action within the BBL for a second time. And that against a SEAWOLVES team that recently achieved the second-highest BBL victory in the club’s history (102:74 against Göttingen).

For coach Przemyslaw Frasunkiewicz, despite the defeat of Ludwigsburg, who defeated FC Bayern Munich 78:70 at the start of the season, there is a warning: “After the defeat in Braunschweig, it is to be expected that Ludwigsburg will want to defend their home court and want to show a reaction. With John Patrick, Ludwigsburg is a fortress.”

After the return of Ludwigsburg coaching legend John Patrick (2013-2022, most recently in Japan), the league-wide style of play is back in the baroque city. “Ludwigsburg is a playoff team with a very broad squad, a lot of size and athleticism. They have many players who can create their own throw,” explains the Rostock coach. “We expect a very fast and physical game. They defend the ball incredibly aggressively as a team and put the opponent under a lot of pressure all over the field.”

In order to curb these qualities, the Rostock coaching trio has a plan: “We have to limit their transition offense as much as possible. As a collective we have to do an incredibly good job in transition defense and get back on defense as quickly as possible to stop the ball. This also means that we have to watch out for the ball, move the ball quickly as a team and avoid easy turnovers. If Ludwigsburg has a weakness, it is probably the hit rate from the three-point line. So there will be a lot of rebounds if we force them to throw long shots. We have to collect these rebounds so that we have a chance of surviving in Ludwigsburg.”

Compared to the game on Saturday, Rostock’s rotation is slightly larger again. With Nijal Pearson, a versatile player for attack and defense has been added. It will be decided at short notice whether the re-signed American, who has been in Rostock since Monday, will wear the SEAWOLVES jersey for the first time since May 7, 2023.

Some fans from Rostock will also be there against Ludwigsburg to support the Wolves in their raid.
