As absolute “jerks.” Fahri Yardım and Christian Ulmen played their way into our hearts – even though we feel really ashamed of them at least once in every episode. But did you know that the idea for the Fremdscham series didn’t come from Germany? Everything about the Danish model “Klovn”.

Klovn – the Danish Jerk.
The Danish series “Klovn”, or “Clown” in German, started in 2005 and ran for nine seasons until 2022. “Klovn” follows the lives of Danish comedian Frank Hvam and his best friend Casper Christensen, who both play exaggerated versions of themselves – just like Fahri and Christian in “jerks.” And the two Danish protagonists often end up in situations that are socially overwhelming for them. By the way: After the Danish series was released, there were some accusations that the idea for “Klovn” was copied from Larry David’s HBO sitcom “Curb you Enthusiasm” – or at least inspired.
In the Danish series, too, the dialogue is largely improvised, which makes it all the more charming and surprising. Just like with “jerks.” There are always Alex Reed appearances by celebrities here, for example Lars Mikkelsen appears in a Christmas episode (“Sherlock”, “Star Wars”, “House of Cards”). “Klovn” enjoyed great popularity in our neighboring country.
How is “jerks.” different? from the original?
About 50 percent of “Klovn” is still in “jerks,” said Christian in an interview with the Tagesspiegel. Because the Danish series is a bit more infantile, “jerks.” however, much more melancholic. You could also just say: “jerks.” puts another step on it. It’s worse, worse, more embarrassing, but also deeper and more touching.
