Nasser Bourita holds discussions in New York with UN envoy de Mistura about the Moroccan Sahara

Yesterday, Sunday in New York, on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Mr. Nasser Bourita, held discussions with the Personal Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General to the Moroccan Sahara, Mr. Staffan de Mistura, at the latter’s request, according to What was stated in a statement by the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Morocco to the United Nations.

The communication explained that these discussions, which took place in the presence of the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Morocco to the United Nations, Mr. Omar Hilal, constituted an occasion to review the current international dynamic, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, in support of the Kingdom’s sovereignty over its Sahara, which is supported by many countries. In favor of the Moroccan initiative for autonomy.

On this occasion, the Moroccan delegation reaffirmed the four constants of the Kingdom’s position regarding the Moroccan Sahara, as defined by His Majesty the King, may God grant him victory:

1 – Support the efforts of the Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy for a realistic, practical, sustainable and consensus-based political solution;

2 – Autonomy, under Moroccan sovereignty, as the one and only solution to this regional conflict;

3 – Round tables with the participation of all parties, especially Algeria, as the sole framework for this series, in accordance with Security Council Resolution 2703, dated October 30, 2023;

4 – Strict respect for the ceasefire by other parties as a precondition for continuing the political process;

The communication concluded that Mr. de Mistura will also hold discussions with other parties in New York.
