A new feature is being added for WhatsApp Status.
WhatsApp started working on a feature called Status Update Mentions in March 2024 and now it has been introduced in the new beta version for Android devices.
WABetaInfo reports that the Status Update Mentions feature is available to beta version users.
The report said that under this feature, when you share a photo or video through a status update, you will be able to mention a contact by clicking on the @ button in the caption bar.
The mentioned contact will be notified via a notification that you have mentioned them in your status.
People who are mentioned will be able to re-share the status with their contacts, which option will appear next to the reply box.
But unlike Instagram, when someone you mention reshares a status, your identity will remain private. Likewise, your mentioned contact will not be visible to those viewing the status.
According to the report, the contact mentioned in your status will be able to see the status even if you prevent it from reaching others through privacy settings.
It is not yet clear when WhatsApp will roll out this feature to all users.
