The UAE condemns the “attack” on its ambassador’s headquarters in Khartoum

Sudan – The UAE condemned what it said was an “attack” on its ambassador’s headquarters in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, accusing the army of bombing it.

The UAE Foreign Ministry said, in a statement yesterday, Sunday, that Abu Dhabi “strongly condemned the brutal attack that targeted the headquarters of the head of the UAE mission in Khartoum, by a Sudanese army plane.”

She added that this targeting led to “severe damage to the building,” calling on the Sudanese army to “bear full responsibility for this action.”

The Foreign Ministry added that the UAE will submit a protest note to the Arab League, the African Union, and the United Nations.

She stressed “the importance of protecting diplomatic buildings and the headquarters of embassy personnel, in accordance with the customs and charters that govern and regulate diplomatic work.”

The statement did not mention whether or not there were human casualties or material damage.

As of 09:30 GMT, there was no comment from the Sudanese army.

A few days ago, Khartoum witnessed fierce confrontations between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, which control many areas in the capital, especially in the center.

Since mid-April 2023, Sudan has been witnessing a war between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, which left about 21,000 dead and about 10 million displaced and refugees, according to the United Nations.

UN and international calls are increasing to end the war in order to spare Sudan a humanitarian catastrophe that has begun to push millions into famine and death due to food shortages due to the fighting that has spread to 13 out of 18 states.
