Instagram announced a new change

Instagram has announced new measures to protect young users on its platform.

For this purpose, the Metta-owned photo-sharing app has introduced teen account settings, which will automatically make millions of accounts of underage users private.

Access to various types of content will also be restricted to these users. One goal of designing the new changes is to prepare younger users to use the app under parental supervision. Ten settings will apply to accounts of all users under the age of 18.

Users aged 16 and 17 will be able to change the settings as they wish, but users aged 13 to 15 will need parental permission to make any changes. According to Meta, this new change has been made after consultation with the Safety Advisory Council.

The company said that the accounts of underage users will be identified using artificial intelligence technology.

It should be noted that these steps are being taken by the company at a time when it is being criticized by various countries for taking insufficient measures to protect young consumers.

Earlier in 2021, Meta banned Instagram users 19 and older from sending direct messages to younger users who didn’t follow them.

In 2023, Meta introduced a tool to prevent Instagram users under the age of 18 from staying up late at night using the app.

Under this feature, a notification will be sent to the accounts of youth under the age of 18 to prevent them from using the app till late at night.

Similarly, Meta’s new policies on Facebook and Instagram allow users under 18 to access sensitive content such as suicide, self-harm and eating disorders through search and explore features. was made difficult.

In January 2024, new messaging restrictions were implemented to protect younger users.

At the time, the company said that under the default settings, the accounts of young users will no longer be able to be messaged by strangers or added to group chats.
