Dr. Hossam Mowafi, professor of critical care at Kasr Al-Aini Faculty of Medicine, explained that creatinine is a substance that results from the body’s metabolism.
Mowafi said during his program “My Lord, Increase My Knowledge,” broadcast on Sada El Balad channel, that creatinine becomes high in the body if it reaches 1.1 mg/dL.

The professor of critical care medicine added that the kidneys are the vital organ responsible for maintaining the balance of creatinine in the body, explaining that its normal range ranges between 0.9 and 1 mg/dL.
He stressed the need to drink an abundant amount of water daily, because lack of water intake for long hours is a bad habit that causes high levels of creatinine in the body.

He emphasized that ultrasound examination of the kidneys is an effective medical test in diagnosing the causes of high creatinine in the body, noting that it detects ureteral obstruction, fibrosis of kidney tissue, and small size.
Mowafi concluded his speech by appealing to people who suffer from high creatinine to constantly monitor its levels and adhere to the doctor’s instructions regarding the amount of drinking water allowed per day and the safe dose of animal protein in the daily diet.
