The vice president of the National Association of Private Educational Institutes (Andiep), Fausto Romeo, hopes that the 2024-2025 school year, which officially began on Monday, September 30, will develop normally.
Romeo indicated in an interview for Radio Fe y Alegría who hopes that this new school year will progress “without interruptions for any reason” so that the academic calendar can be met.
It also foresees progress in the implementation of the five-year Science and Technology baccalaureate. This new resume It allows integrating academic knowledge with teaching, learning, industry and commerce, giving young people the opportunity to prepare for the world of work from high school.
Likewise, he hopes that there can be an improvement in “educational quality.”
“Those are elements that I hope can be given this year with this new management of Minister Héctor Rodríguez,” he stated.
Andiep foresees the implementation of the new resume
The vice president of Andiep recalled that by 2022 Venezuela had 179 industrial schools, but Currently it has 2,300.
In addition, he assured that private organizations such as Andiep, the Venezuelan Association of Catholic Education (AVEC), universities and student representatives held meetings with a team from the Ministry of Education.
“There can be no development without the presence of the public and private sector, civil society and the community,” Romeo emphasized.
On the other hand, he insisted that schools must be linked to industries to achieve a qualified workforce.
“Professionalization does not only mean going to university, there are also technical careers or even the National Institute of Socialist Training and Education (Inces),” he added.
A “slow” return to school
Although the deadline to start the 2024-2025 school year is Monday, September 30, in accordance with what was established by the Ministry of Education, some private schools started days earlier. It is about a return to school that Andiep described as “slow.”
Fausto Romeo stood out in an interview for Union Radio on September 23 that by that date 40% had already started classes. While an additional 20% would join during the current week. The union member stated that the rest of the schools would resume activities on September 30.
However, he warned that 20% of students in the private sector had not enrolled or formalized their withdrawal.
“They are parents who have reserved the quota, but say ‘I’ll stay, but let me see.’ I think it is up to the school authorities to find out what happened to those students and see if they are in the public or private sector. We have to collect that data,” he explained.
According to Romeo, this situation is due to uncertainty due to the political situation and the economic capacity of some parents and representatives.
