NEC takes a late setback against Feyenoord

NEC drew against Feyenoord on Saturday evening. The Nijmegen team seemed to be on their way to victory for a long time thanks to a goal by Sontje Hansen, but they scored the equalizer in the final minutes: 1-1.

Strong Hansen

NEC left the ball to Feyenoord in the first act, but the visitors had their hands full with the well-organized defense of the Nijmegen team. With the exception of a few shots from the second line, there was little entertainment for the sold-out Goffert Stadium. Only after 35 minutes did everyone bounce back. It was Sontje Hansen who put Thomas Beelen aside and surprised goalkeeper Timon Wellenreuther with a shot into the short corner.

NEC was firmly in control after the break, with Lasse Schöne within the lines. The Dane played his 200th Eredivisie match for NEC. With the replacement of the injured Dirk Proper, NEC aimed for the 2-0 and hardly gave away any chances at the back.

First it was Rober González who saw his attempt roll wide, then Koki Ogawa’s attempt exploded onto the post. Not much later, Ogawa was dangerous again with a header.

Again the aluminum…

Yet it was Feyenoord that struck in the absolute final phase. Jordan Lotomba was most alert during a scrimmage in Robin Roefs’ goal area and scored the 1-1 against the ropes. A result that both teams found difficult to accept after more than a hundred minutes of football. And that was especially true for NEC, which had a great chance through Koki in injury time. He hit the post for the second time…

Next week NEC awaits the away match against NAC Breda, the first in the Eredivisie in more than ten years. The kick-off is Saturday at 6.45 pm in the Rat Verlegh Stadium.
