Aalborg is Lisbeth’s home. But many want her gone

It’s nine o’clock and it’s a little cold on Bredegade Torv. In the surrounding shops, people slowly arrive at their workplaces.

Out of a backyard comes Lisbeth Joelsen. She has a cup of coffee in one hand and her boyfriend Fritz in the other. They have been inside the greenhouse in the backyard to have some breakfast.

Lisbeth Joelsen has taken Northern Jutland on a day trip in the city centre, and into an everyday life that only a few people know about.

Because Bredegade Torv is not always empty. This is where Lisbeth and a number of the central city’s vulnerable citizens often meet. Here people talk, play music and drink coffee or whatever is stronger.

Sometimes the residents of the city center feel that Lisbeth Joelsen and other vulnerable people are such a nuisance that the police have to be called. But according to Lisbeth, the vulnerable are by no means conflict seekers.

– We can understand that. When we’re told to slow down, we do. We don’t want to be a problem, she says.

The only seats left in the small square at Bredegade Torv are five stone pillars and a row of bicycle racks. That’s why she invites us into the warmth of the nearest conservatory, for a chat about a life with ups and downs – and a refill on the coffee.

DO YOU HAVE A STORY?

Have you experienced problems with vulnerable citizens in the city centre? Have you heard about an exciting project that can support vulnerable citizens? Or do you have something completely third that you think is important to tell about the subject?

In the coming time, Nordjyske will focus on the match in the city centre. If you have input or experiences in connection with the debate that is currently taking up a lot of space in central Aalborg, you are very welcome to contact Nordjyske.
