Opponents condemn attack against María Corina Machado and her team

The Venezuelan opposition condemned this Thursday the attack on María Corina Machado and her team, after two of her vehicles were “vandalized” and manipulated in the state of Lara, where she spent the night after a campaign event in Portuguesa, in support of the candidate Edmundo González Urrutia.

Among the opponents who spoke out was Henry Caprileswho expressed that “impunity, the breakdown of justice and the absence of respect characterize those who govern Venezuela poorly,” in reference to the administration of Nicolás Maduro.

«This is why the people mostly reject them! And on July 28 they will feel that rejection with millions of votes to recover democracy and the validity of the rule of law,” Capriles wrote in X.

On the same social network, the former deputy Juan Pablo Guanipa He called the “regime” “cowardly” and was convinced that “the response of Venezuelans will be the massive vote on July 28” in favor of González Urrutia.

For its part, the opponent Delsa Solorzano He noted that “attempt on the life” of Machado and his team “must be seriously condemned and investigated.”

“Political differences are settled at the ballot box, not with the use of violence,” said Solórzano, also in X, while alerting the international community and human rights organizations about the events.

Furthermore, the exiled politician in Spain Leopoldo Lopez He sent forces to Machado from the same platform and stressed that “neither this (the attack) nor anything” is going to stop her.

PUD demands that the Prosecutor’s Office investigate the attack

The Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD) demanded this Thursday that the Public Ministry investigate in a “serious, exhaustive” manner the attack against María Corina Machado and her team.

“We demand that the Public Ministry carry out a serious, exhaustive investigation into this very serious event, and a statement to the Venezuelan people,” they indicated in a statement from the PUD, read by former deputy Biagio Pilieri at a press conference.

Pilieri added that he hopes that the MP will explain to Venezuelans “how it happened and why it happened” the attack against Machado.

“We are calling on the security forces that are monitoring 24 hours a day, following the main opposition leaders, especially María Corina Machado and Edmundo González Urrutia, how they could allow this to happen,” he said.

Likewise, he reiterated to the international community that they remain “firm” together with the candidate Edmundo González Urrutia and Machado in making it possible for the “Venezuelan people to express themselves freely and peacefully, with the force of the vote, on July 28.”

“Today’s attack, because that is what it is, an attack, is a criminal act about which (…) we want to question, to have the candidate Nicolás Maduro and his campaign command give their opinion on this,” he added.

Pilieri pointed out that the opposition, grouped in the PUD, will not fall into an “agenda of violence.”
