Damascus: Israeli attack on the Iranian embassy, ​​’the death of the senior commander of the Revolutionary Guards’

Syrian state media reported that an Israeli attack on Monday targeted a building attached to the Iranian embassy in the capital Damascus, in which a senior commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard was also killed, according to Lebanese media.

A war monitoring organization says eight people have been killed in the attack.

The Syrian official news agency Sanaa has said that “the Israeli attack targeted the building of the Iranian consulate in Maza, a suburb of Damascus.”

There was no immediate comment from Israel.

AFP reporters at the scene have confirmed that a building attached to the embassy on the outskirts of Damascus has been destroyed.

Iranian media have also reported that the adjacent building was completely destroyed in the attacks in Damascus, but the ambassador was not harmed.

After the Israeli attack on the Iranian embassy in Damascus, according to Reuters, the Iranian ambassador to Syria said that “Tehran’s response will be very strong.”

On the other hand, according to IRNA, Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Moqdad visited the Iranian embassy after the missile attack and condemned the Israeli attack while talking to his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir Abdullahian over the phone.

The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has said that Israeli missiles destroyed a building connected to the Iranian embassy in Damascus. Eight people lost their lives.

The incident comes days after the Observatory reported that 53 people, including 38 soldiers and seven members of Iran-backed Hezbollah, had been killed in Israeli strikes in Syria.
