In Saugues, the first pink march mobilized a crazy crowd

Pink October: A Resounding Success in Saugues

On Sunday, September 29, 2023, Saugues witnessed its first Pink October event organized by the La Gévaudane association. More than 600 community members gathered to unite in the fight against cancer, making this inaugural event a remarkable success. The dedicated efforts of 50 volunteers ensured a smooth and impactful day focused on cancer prevention and awareness.

A Kick-off Conference on Cancer Awareness

The festivities began on Thursday with an informative conference led by Dr. Anne-Marie Bousseroles, a respected gynecologist. She emphasized the importance of early detection and prevention strategies for uterine and breast cancers. Dr. Bousseroles also encouraged vaccinations against the papillomavirus, highlighting their relevance for both girls and boys from adolescence. Following her presentation, Pierre Gayrel, a urologist, discussed prostate cancer, drawing an audience of around 70 attendees eager to learn.

Social Impact of the Pink March

Despite chilly morning temperatures of just 1°C, community members of all ages showed up in large numbers for the first Pink March. Attendees could choose from three route options: 1 km, 5 km, or 10 km, all under unexpectedly bright sunshine.

  • Warm-Up Session: The event started with a lively warm-up session led by Marie-Emmanuelle Pinto and Mélanie from Mumu’s Girls, who energized the participants with music and dance. Dynamic Émotion also provided entertaining activities to enhance the experience.
  • Healthcare Professionals’ Presence: With the ongoing challenge of medical desertification in the region, the association’s volunteers, medical professionals, and elected officials stressed the importance of cancer screening and preventive measures. Physical activity was highlighted as a potent tool in combating cancer.
