Convergencia demands the release of Biagio Pilieri after a month in detention

Caracas, Sep 28 (EFE).- The Venezuelan political party Convergencia demanded this Saturday the release of its national coordinator, Biagio Pilieri, after a month of being detained after participating in a protest called by the main opposition coalition, the Democratic Unitary Platform ( PUD), against the official result of the presidential elections on July 28.

“A month ago they unjustly detained our national coordinator, Biagio Pilieri, 30 days in which his rights have been violated, 30 days without his freedom, 30 days without being able to see him,” pointed out the formation in a message published in X.

Likewise, he noted that he will not rest until “I see him again where he should be: free, with his family, friends and colleagues.”

The formation added that “prayers” have been maintained throughout Venezuela for the release of the former deputy.

On September 5, his wife, María Livia Vasile, reported that Pilieri was accused of five crimes, including “terrorism”, while explaining that he was presented at a hearing without the presence of his “trusted lawyers.”

«My husband was presented last Friday, August 30, without the presence of his trusted lawyers, with the assistance of a public defender. He was charged with five crimes: conspiracy, criminal association, instigation of hatred, terrorism and treason,” Vasile said in X.

Pilieri was arrested on August 28 after participating in a protest called by the PUD, in rejection of the ruling of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) that validated the controversial re-election of Nicolás Maduro in the presidential elections, according to opponents on the social network.

Anti-Chavismo indicated that the former deputy was captured after two vehicles and two motorcycles allegedly chased him through Caracas.

One day after his arrest, Convergencia reported that officials from the Bolivarian Intelligence Service (Sebin) raided Pilieri’s residence, in the state of Yaracuy (west), without offering further details of the police operation.
