Despite the first goal, again no victory in their own stadium

Many supporters will have been disappointed upon entering the stadium that their football boots were not in the bag, because the field was in good condition and the conditions were perfect for a good game of football close to perfection. In short, it was a lot of fun and the Twelfth Man must have thought so too, because with 13,554 men and women, the spectator record in the Kooi Stadium has been set once again.

Take note of that, because that was of course not what this afternoon and evening was about at the Elfstedenpark. At stake against competitor FC Emmen were not only three important points, but also the first Cambuur goal in the new stadium still had to be scored and what about the first home win? That first goal is now a fact, but as far as the second is concerned, we unfortunately have to be patient a little longer. The people of Emmen showed themselves to be deadly efficient in the transition and struck relentlessly three times: final score 1-3.

With the suspended Bryant Nieling back in the starting eleven, SC Cambuur actually started the match quite well. With a lot of energy and intensity, the pressure was on and within a few minutes goalkeeper Unbehaun of FC Emmen took a free kick from Diemers from the intersection and Balk was then a little too aggressive in the rebound; about.

Then there is that old football law that states that the opponent will score if you do not capitalize on the danger yourself and that proved to be true again this afternoon. From an unnecessarily given away corner, Rhein was able to build completely freely on the edge of the sixteen and with a swipe into the long corner, even Thijs Jansen had no chance: 0-1.

About ten minutes later things would get even worse when Nsona came through on the left, Ottesen failed to stop him, and his slide ended up at the far post where Hawkins was once again completely free. A textbook counter and an unmissable opportunity for the right winger from close range. So a goal, so 0-2 and so another bitter pill for SC Cambuur.

Just before half time, Benjamin Pauwels would give something back on behalf of yellow-blue and he will go down in history as the scorer of the first Cambuur goal ever in the Kooi Stadium. The lightning-fast winger dribbled in from the left side and with a dry shot in the short corner he made ‘t Woanskip sound for the first time in Leeuwarden-west.

The audience had barely finished singing when silence would descend again around the stadium. Emmen countered again through the heart of the defense, Ottesen was covering on the wrong side and Nsona was able to take advantage. In the 1-on-1 with Jansen he remained cool and so the score was 1-3 at the tea break.

With two substitutions (Poll for Ottesen and De Jong for Rölke), the staff tried to turn the tide in the second act and there was no lack of good will, but there were good opportunities. SC Cambuur mainly tried with long, direct balls, but the Emmen defense knew what to do with that.

Jonathan Afolabi was also unable to make any progress as a substitute, he replaced Michael de Leeuw after more than an hour, and everything was done from the bench with an attacking final offensive. However, it was to no avail and we ended the fourth match in the Kooi Stadium again scoreless, but the ban was broken as far as scoring a goal was concerned. Small consolation after a disappointing afternoon for everyone from yellow-blue.

Next weekend there will be action again on the familiar Friday evening. The player bus then heads to Venlo for the meeting in De Koel with VVV.
