For the first time in the world, a country is close to ending the use of petrol-powered vehicles. In the European country of Norway, the number of electric vehicles has increased compared to petrol vehicles.
Thus, it is set to become the first country in the world to remove environmentally harmful crude fuel vehicles from the roads.
There are 28 lakh vehicles registered in this country, out of which 7 lakh 54 thousand 302 run on electricity while 7 lakh 53 thousand 905 vehicles run on petrol.
Diesel vehicles are the largest with around 10 lakhs, but their sales are declining rapidly.
According to a statement released by the Norwegian Road Federation (OFV), this is a historic moment, a milestone that has been achieved in less than 10 years.
The statement said that sales of electric vehicles have grown rapidly and Norway is set to become the first country in the world to have a high use of passenger electric vehicles.
Interestingly, Norway is a major producer of crude oil and gas, but it is targeting the sale of vehicles that do not emit harmful gases.
In August 2024, 94.3 percent of vehicles registered in Norway were electric.
The authorities are giving a lot of tax breaks for electric vehicles.
