An increasing number of companies are entering the market for connected rings, which are serious competitors to smartwatches. During IFA 2024, we had the opportunity to meet with members of the Circular company to learn more about this emerging market.
Connected rings have recently gained popularity, attracting not only a growing user base but also major companies that are launching their own models. One example is Samsung, which has recently introduced its Galaxy Ring.
At the IFA 2024 show, we spoke with representatives from Circular, a French company specializing in the development of connected rings aimed at enhancing our quality of life. Founded in 2018, Circular is a pioneer in this field. Their Circular ring is primarily a health technology product, offering a range of traditional functionalities alongside innovative features, such as artificial intelligence for health analysis and personalized advice.
“The rings have all the classic features, including sleep tracking, step counting, pulse measurement, and blood oxygen saturation monitoring. We are a company that places a strong emphasis on well-being, and since the device can last between three to six days on a single charge, the goal is to wear it continuously. This allows our artificial intelligence to understand you better over time and suggest behavioral changes to enhance your sleep, physical energy, and manage stress… Our unique feature is an integrated vibrating motor that enables intelligent wake-up functions, guided breathing, coherence exercises, and alerts if your pulse is too high or your saturation is too low.” explained Laurent Bsalis, co-founder of Circular.
The rising popularity of these rings can be attributed to their practicality; they work seamlessly with a mobile application and do not require additional hardware. These devices are also far more comfortable than watches, especially for sleep, and certain functions can provide more accurate readings by analyzing various parameters from the veins in the fingers. Thanks to this simplicity and comfort, many users may lean toward these new devices instead of traditional smartwatches.
With several years of experience and market research, the co-founder provided insights into the current state of the sector: “I believe this market is still relatively small but is set for significant growth. We are hearing notable sales figures; I think Samsung has sold between five hundred thousand and one million units since their launch. Those are impressive numbers for a tech product.”
Despite the presence of large competitors with greater resources, members of Circular remain optimistic about the future of the sector. These new products, supported by aggressive marketing strategies, will introduce connected rings to a broader audience. While competition will be fierce, the company is striving to differentiate itself by offering features that larger players do not yet provide, such as the focus on artificial intelligence and their vibrating motor.

The Rise of Connected Rings: IFA 2024 Insights from Circular
More and more companies are launching into the production of connected rings, serious competitors to smartwatches. We were able to meet members of the Circular company during IFA 2024 to learn more about the market.
The Connected Ring Trend
Connected rings have recently become a real trend. These innovative devices are attracting more users and large companies, which are launching their models. A notable example is Samsung, which has recently launched its Galaxy Ring, showing the growing interest in this technology.
Insights from Circular at IFA 2024
During the IFA 2024 show, we had the opportunity to meet members of Circular, a pioneering French company specializing in connected rings since 2018. Their flagship product, the Circular Ring, is primarily a healthtech innovation that combines traditional functionalities with cutting-edge features like artificial intelligence to enhance our health and well-being.
Key Features of the Circular Ring
According to Laurent Bsalis, co-founder of Circular, “The rings have all the classic features like tracking your sleep, steps, pulse, blood oxygen saturation, etc. We focus enormously on well-being, and since users typically wear these rings continuously (with a battery life of three to six days), our AI can better understand user patterns and recommend behavioral changes to improve sleep, physical energy, and stress management.”
Innovative Functionalities
The Circular Ring includes specialized features that enhance user experience:
- Integrated vibrating motor for intelligent waking alarms.
- Guided breathing exercises.
- Coherence exercises to reduce stress.
- Alerts for elevated pulse rates or low blood oxygen saturation.
Why Choose a Connected Ring Over a Smartwatch?
Despite the competition with smartwatches, connected rings are increasingly favored due to their practical design:
- Comfortable for Sleep: Rings are less cumbersome than traditional watches, providing enhanced comfort during sleep, an essential time for health monitoring.
- Precision Tracking: Connected rings can often collect more precise health data by analyzing the unique parameters from the veins of the fingers.
- Seamless Mobile Integration: These devices typically work directly with a mobile app, making them user-friendly and easy to manage.
The Future of the Connected Ring Market
During our discussion, Laurent Bsalis shared his insights on the current state of the connected ring sector: “I think it’s a market that is still small but is poised for significant growth. We hear impressive sales figures; for instance, Samsung has sold between 500,000 and 1 million units since launching their Galaxy Ring. These numbers are indicative of a burgeoning tech product market.”
Competing with Industry Giants
Even in a market dominated by larger competitors, Circular is optimistic about the future. The rise of connected rings facilitates wider visibility, and aggressive marketing strategies will pave the way for increased user adoption. Circular plans to distinguish itself with features that are not yet commonplace in competitor models, such as:
- Advanced AI for personalized health insights.
- Integration of vibrating alerts for health monitoring.
