La Vinotinto lost to Ukraine in the quarterfinals of the Futsal World Cup

The Ukrainian team beat Venezuela with goals from Danyil Abakshyn, Petro Shoturma, Nazar Shved, Rostyslav Semenchenko, Oleksandr Sukhov, Ihor Cherniavskyi and Mykola Mykytiuk

La Vinotinto lost to Ukraine 9-4 in the quarterfinals of the Uzbekistan Futsal World Cup and failed to reach its first semifinals in history.

Venezuela had come into this match with high morale after eliminating Spain, world champions in 2000 and 2004, in the round of 16, 2-1 in a historic victory that placed them in the quarterfinals for the first time.

Venezuela went to the qualifying rounds as one of the best four third places after clearly losing to Iran 7-1 and France 7-3, and then beating Guatemala also 7-3.

“It has been a shame to fall in these instances, we had the aspirations to continue moving forward, to continue writing this history,” said Alfredo Vidal, Vinotinto player, at the end of the match against Ukraine.

Ukraine, which has only lost one game in Uzbekistan and it was in its debut in the group stage against Argentina (7-1), clearly beat Vinotinto, which was not the solid team that stopped Spain in the round of 16.

The first half of Vinotinto and Ukraine

The European team was superior to Vinotinto, but went through bad moments in the first half, since in the blink of an eye it went from 3-1 to 3-3, although it recovered in the final stretch of this period and scored two goals ahead (5-3).

There emerged the figure of Danyil Abakshyn, who represents the new wave of European futsal and who scored three goals in a frenetic first half.

He was supported by his teammates Petro Shoturma and Nazar Shved, while Venezuela responded with goals from Milton Francia, Jesús Viamonte and Alfredo Vidal, which forced a short-lived 3-3 draw in the 17th minute.

The second half

Ukraine, in the second half, struck with goals from Rostyslav Semenchenko, as soon as it began in the 21st minute, and from goalkeeper Oleksandr Sukhov in the 27th, to make the score 7-3 and decide the match, despite the fact that the Venezuelans tried to react with Rafael Morillo’s success in the 30th.

The eighth and ninth goals were signed by Ihor Cherniavskyi and Mykola Mykytiuk, the Córdoba Patrimony player, who in the 32nd and 38th minutes certified the victory in a historic day for Ukraine.
