Israel: Painful response to Iran, but no regional conflict

Israel’s war cabinet has concluded, where the response to Iran, following Tehran’s massive attack with drones and ballistic missiles, was put on the carpet.

As reported by the Times of Israel citing Israel’s Channel 12, several options were put on the table, each of which would be a “painful” response to Iran, but which would not trigger a regional war.

Also according to the television network, the goal is the answer that will be decided, to get the green light of the USA. It is recalled that Washington had declared that it would not support any aggressive option of Tel Aviv.

In a parallel development, as reported by the American Axios, Israel’s Defense Minister on Sunday told his American counterpart that Tel Aviv has no choice but to respond to the attack. Axios cites 2 sources with knowledge of the content of the call.

The Israeli attack on Rafah is delayed
At the same time, in the wake of the weekend’s shocking developments, Tel Aviv has reportedly decided to delay its long-awaited military offensive on the southern Gaza city of Rafah.

The IDF was to begin issuing evacuation orders on Monday, CNN reported, citing two unnamed Israeli sources. These plans have been put on the back burner. Public broadcaster Kan broadcast the same information last night, but Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party issued a denial.

Netanyahu has repeatedly claimed to have approved plans for an operation in Rafah and most recently said a start date has been decided. But hours later, Defense Minister Yoav Gallad told his US counterpart Lloyd Austin that no date had been set as the IDF was still working to finalize its plans for how to evacuate some 1.4 million Palestinians taking refuge in Rafah.
