Israel’s intelligence agency’s capabilities ‘attention’ paid to assassination of Hezbollah leader

According to the New York Times (NYT), an American daily, on the 28th (local time), after struggling in the war against Hezbollah in 2006, Israel has significantly strengthened its intelligence collection capabilities, centering on foreign intelligence agency Mossad and military intelligence agencies.

Israel struggled against Hezbollah’s guerrilla warfare during the 34-day war at the time, and failed to achieve its goal of rescuing its soldiers kidnapped by Hezbollah.

Israel analyzed the lack of information on the movements of Hezbollah’s leadership and the strategies and tactics they would use as the cause of the defeat.

Afterwards, the Israeli military’s secret intelligence agency ‘Unit 8200’ developed cutting-edge hacking tools to better intercept Hezbollah’s communication network and strengthened cooperation with the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA).

In addition, we also worked on establishing a new task force to monitor Hezbollah’s every move using more unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and the latest satellites, while also ensuring that important information is delivered more quickly to front-line soldiers and airmen.

In addition, taking advantage of the fact that it is easy to access as it borders Lebanon, they infiltrated special forces disguised as civilians and carried out intelligence operations.

It is reported that considerable efforts were made to plant informants within Hezbollah and Iran.

According to Israeli and U.S. officials, Mossad and the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) killed Imad Mughniya, a top Hezbollah official who led several terrorist attacks targeting the West, in 2008.

In January 2020, the Israeli Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) elite Quds Force commander Qasem Soleimani entered Lebanon via Syria and met with Nasrallah, captured by Israel’s Unit 8200.

Israel, concerned about the outbreak of war, did not attack them and only relayed relevant information to the United States. The United States later continued to track Soleimani and eliminated him by carrying out a drone strike near Baghdad International Airport in Iraq.

In July of this year, Fuad Shukr, the right-hand man of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, was killed by an Israeli missile attack while visiting the government in Beirut, and earlier this month, Unit 8200 located Hezbollah and Iran’s missile factories in Syria. We bombed.

The capabilities of the Israeli intelligence agency shined brightest over the past 10 days.

In Lebanon, on the 17th and 18th, thousands of pagers and radios mainly used by Hezbollah members exploded simultaneously, causing massive casualties.

The NYT reported that this was the result of Mossad, which set up a shell company in Hungary, selling large quantities of pagers loaded with explosives to Hezbollah when Hezbollah, concerned about cell phone wiretapping and wiretapping, encouraged the use of pagers.

Then, starting on the 19th, the Israeli military abandoned its previous defensive attitude and began large-scale airstrikes targeting Hezbollah targets throughout Lebanon.

On the 20th, about 10 key commanders, including Ibrahim Akil, commander of Hezbollah’s special operations unit Radwan, died in large numbers.

Israel continued the beheading operation, including eliminating Hezbollah’s missile and rocket unit commander Ibrahim Muhammad Qubaisi through a targeted airstrike on the 23rd, and eventually blew up its leader, Nasrallah, along with his secret headquarters, on the 27th.

Meanwhile, it was reported that the body of leader Nasrallah was recovered intact at the site of an Israeli airstrike on the southern outskirts of Beirut on the 29th.

According to Reuters, local sources explained that there were no direct wounds on Nasrallah’s body and that chest compressions from the impact of the explosion appeared to be the cause of death.
