After the Dahiya attack… Mikati demands an end to the Israeli war of annihilation

Beirut – Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati considered, yesterday, Friday, that the new aggression on the suburb proves Israel’s disregard for ceasefire calls.

Mikati stressed that, in light of this, the international community is required to stop the Israeli war of genocide against Lebanon.

Earlier on Friday evening, Israeli F-35 fighter jets launched a “violent and unprecedented” raid on a target in the Haret Hreik area in the southern suburb of Beirut, the main stronghold of the Lebanese faction movement.

A few minutes later, Israeli army spokesman Daniel Hagari issued a video statement to say that warplanes had targeted the headquarters of the central command of the Lebanese faction movement.

Meanwhile, Hebrew media outlets, including Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper and Channel 12, reported that the target of the raid was Hassan Nasrallah, the Secretary-General of the Lebanese faction movement, and that the army is currently investigating whether the latter was inside the place targeted by the raid or not, while no announcement has been made. On behalf of the party, comment regarding this matter until 17:10 GMT.

In response, a statement issued by Mikati’s office said that the latter, who is currently in New York, “followed up the available information about the raid launched by the Israeli enemy on the southern suburb of Beirut.”

The statement added that Mikati “to this end made contact with the Army Commander, General Joseph Aoun, and learned from him the available information about this aggression.”

Mikati also contacted the coordinator of the National Committee for Coordination of Disaster and Crisis Response Operations, Nasser Yassin, and “gave him directions to mobilize all relevant agencies, especially in light of the information indicating that large numbers of casualties occurred as a result of this aggression.”

Mikati stressed that “the new aggression proves that the Israeli enemy does not care about all international efforts and calls for a ceasefire, which places the international community before its responsibilities to deter this enemy, and stop its tyranny and the war of annihilation that it is waging against Lebanon.”

Since Monday, the Israeli army has launched the “most violent and widespread” attack on Lebanon since the beginning of the confrontations with the Lebanese faction movement about a year ago. Which resulted in the deaths of 726 people and the wounding of 2,173 others, as of Friday morning, according to a tally by Anadolu’s correspondent, based on official Lebanese announcements.

On the other hand, sirens continue to sound in Israel after the Lebanese faction movement launched hundreds of rockets at military sites, settlements, and the Mossad headquarters in Tel Aviv, amid a strict blackout on the human and material losses, according to observers.

This blackout is due to the fact that what is happening on the Lebanon front is a precedent since the Nakba of 1948, because it strikes the Israeli security doctrine based on the principle of “transferring the battle to enemy territory,” while the strikes reached most parts of Israel, including Tel Aviv.

Since last October 8, Lebanese and Palestinian factions in Lebanon, most notably the Lebanese Faction Movement, have exchanged daily bombardments with the Israeli army across the dividing “Blue Line,” resulting in hundreds killed and wounded, most of them on the Lebanese side.

These factions are demanding an end to the war waged by Israel, with American support, on the Gaza Strip since October 7, which has left more than 137,000 Palestinians dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 10,000 missing, amid massive destruction and deadly famine.
