ABU DHABI – Saif Al Yazid – His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Sandooq Al Watan, yesterday awarded honorary student awards to Emirati university students who received gold, silver and bronze awards in the fields of research, commitment to combating climate change and Circular economy and issues related to the value of sustainable development.
This honor recognizes the efforts of university students who presented numerous research projects focusing on important themes related to sustainable development during a competition recently launched by Sandooq Al Watan and involving UAE University.
After presenting the awards to the winners, His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan expressed pride in the creativity and innovative spirit of the sons and daughters of the UAE, stressing that the bright future of the country and its people stems from their work in various fields. The ideas and vision of a talented son of the field, this is Sandooq Al Watan’s goal to activate and empower the people of the country through tens of billions of creative initiatives.
His Excellency stressed that the President of the country, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan (may God bless him), aspires for the sons and daughters of the UAE to be cherished for their abilities and the noble human values they have shaped. He expressed full confidence that the young people of the Emirates will become the creative force of society, each of them has a clear vision for the future and they are fully committed to true values, whether in terms of the ability to continuously learn, explore. His Excellency stressed that Sandooq Al Watan is keen to launch such competitions to encourage children of Emirati university students to explore areas such as circular economy, climate change and social sustainability, learn about these issues and contribute to the development of proposed programmes. University of Sharjah students Moaz Ahmed Falahi, Rashid Al Shamsi, Abdullah Al Faihan, Salah Mahdi and Abdullah Jassim Al Ali for their outstanding research “Towards a sustainable approach: improving asphalt pavement performance using polystyrene foam additives and recycled reactive rubber” And won the Gold Award (RAR)”.
Students Lamis Buqis, Aman Maimoun, Latifa Al-Shalahi, Nada Nasser and Khalifa Al-Dhahouri from the American University of Sharjah received a silver medal for their research on “Extracting Lithium from Waste Lithium Batteries”.
Hisham Kazim from the American University of Sharjah also won a silver medal for his research on “Identification of PM2.5 sources, return pathways and prediction for air pollution control”.
Abu Dhabi University students Noura Al-Alawi, Somaya Al-Shamsi, Zainab Abu Odeh, Shorouk Ramadan and Nour Salam won the Silver Award for their research on “Intelligent harvesting of sustainable palm trees based on date and fruit classification” using deep learning.
Emirates University students Reem Rashid Al Nuaimi, Khadija Abdel Wali, Maha Al Ghaithi, Rawda Abdel Rahman and Hind Al Mutawa received a bronze medal for their research on “Recycling carbon fibers to strengthen polymers and sustainable plastics”.
Female students from the American University of Sharjah, Hessa Al Suwaidi, Rawda Al Hajri, Sarah Al Hammadi and Maryam Al Jasmi, received a Bronze Award for their research on “Creating Foam Insulation Materials from Phenol Using Biological Raw Materials”.
As for Yazia Al Marzouqi, a student from Emirates University, she won the Bronze Award for her research on “Using Geographic Information Systems to Identify Flood Risk Areas in Ras Al Khaimah for Urban Planning.”
University of Sharjah students Amna Al-Murshed, Fatima Al-Mazmi and Majid Al-Bastaki received a bronze medal for their research on “Al-Falaj Resort: The intersection of agriculture and architecture”.
