If the windshield washer fluid tank is empty, it is now wiser to fill it with winter windshield washer fluid instead of summer windshield washer fluid to avoid unpleasant surprises.

While the summer windshield washer fluid cleans the glass from insects and bird droppings, using it in the colder period can freeze the car’s windshield washer system. “As the weather gradually gets colder, we have started to replace summer windshield washer fluid with winter detergent,” said Olerex CEO Piret Miller.

According to Miller, winter windshield washer fluid should be preferred because it is made on the basis of ethanol, or alcohol, and is therefore frost-resistant even at -21 degrees. In addition, winter detergent more effectively removes road salt and other dirt from the windshield and vehicle lights. “Even if we don’t have to fear such extreme cold temperatures, the summer washing liquid can also leave the car owner in trouble with night frosts,” explained Miller.

In addition, Miller stressed that summer and winter windshield washer fluid should not be mixed together, because the winter detergent will lose its frost resistance and the windshield may freeze.
