Lavrov expresses Russia’s solidarity with the Lebanese people

Lavrov said during his meeting with Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdullah Bou Habib on the sidelines of the high-level week of the United Nations General Assembly: “I express our condolences and solidarity with the Lebanese people, and we will be very interested in hearing your assessment of what is happening.”

In turn, the Lebanese Foreign Minister stressed his desire to inform the Russian side of the current situation in the region, saying: “We would like to inform you of what is happening now.”

Since last Monday, the Israeli army has launched the “most violent and widespread” attack on Lebanon since the beginning of the confrontations with the Lebanese factions about a year ago, resulting in hundreds of deaths, including children and women, the most recent of which was the attack it launched a short while ago on the central command headquarters of the Lebanese faction movement, located under residential buildings. In the heart of the southern suburbs of Beirut.

Hebrew sources said that the target of the attack was Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah.

The attack led to the complete destruction of 6 buildings in the Haret Hreik area in the southern suburb of Beirut, where ambulances rushed to the site of the raids, and Hezbollah denied that Nasrallah was injured or killed in the attack.

Lebanese media said on Friday evening that at least one person was killed and about 50 others were injured in the Israeli bombing that targeted the leadership of the Lebanese factions.

The Hebrew Channel 13 reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu approved the attack from New York.

Israeli Channel 12 reported, citing Israeli sources, that whether the operation to assassinate Nasrallah succeeded or not, it is a strong message from Israel to the movement.

While Israeli intelligence information confirmed that Nasrallah was at the targeted headquarters, but his fate is not clear, according to what the Hebrew Channel 13 reported.

On the other hand, sirens continue to sound in Israel, following the firing of hundreds of rockets by Lebanese factions at Israeli military sites and settlements, amid a strict blackout on human and material losses, according to observers. The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation reported that the level of alert in Israel has been raised in preparation for a broad response by the Lebanese factions to the attack. Targeting its headquarters in Beirut and attempting to assassinate its Secretary-General, Hassan Nasrallah.

The broadcasting authority confirmed that the security and military system in Israel had raised its state of alert in anticipation of an attack by Iran as well.
