Lawyer Carlos AGO was arrested this Saturday because he had offered to pay $50,000 to the regional director of Bolivian Air Navigation and Airports (Naabol), Ronald CR, to remove weapons seized at the Viru Viru International Airport in Santa Cruz on September 20, reported the Government Minister, Eduardo del Castillo.

“A person was arrested at approximately 1:30 in the morning, who would be the intermediary lawyer who had contacted Mr. Ronald CR to offer the sum of 50,000 US dollars. This person is already fully charged and will be brought before the corresponding judicial authorities,” he said at a press conference.

On September 20, in an anti-drug operation at the Viru Viru airport, 41 boxes containing 100 Ak-47 rifles, 80 shotguns, four M4 rifles, two SMG-type submachine guns and four M4 submachine guns were seized, the minister detailed.

In subsequent operations, a DVR, a WiFi router, documents, a truck, another firearm and 14 cartridges for it were seized.

For this case, the regional director of Bolivian Air Navigation and Airports (Naabol), Ronald CR, was dismissed and arrested for alleged involvement in the crime of arms trafficking.

In addition, a National Customs official was arrested and subsequently placed under house arrest; and a soldier, Oscar VZC, is in preventive detention.
