ALNER: So much brilliance in Jakob Silfverberg

Jakob Silfverberg from 2012.

When it looked pitch black in Gävle, Jakob Silfverberg steps forward and secures the road to victory. He may not be as good as when he last played in the SHL in 2012 – but today he showed how important he is to Brynäs who turned around and won against Frölunda.

“Let the rink crackle – Brynäs is back!” was the supporters’ message when Brynäs entered the ice in the home opener. And crack did it, who needs a jumbotron when 7,900 Gävle residents and long-distance Brynaseers have SHL fever, or should I say Jakob Silfverberg fever?

The cheers that roared when 34-year-old Jakob Silfverberg entered the ice caused the entire Sätraåsen to vibrate. It may not be the same quality in today’s Silfverberg as the golden hero from 2012, but tonight he showed how important he is to Brynäs – if he has not even become all the more important.

Home premiere and boosted by self-confidence from the 3-0 victory last time, there was hardly any feeling of satiety in Gälla’s gang. On the contrary – immediately when the puck was released, it was Brynäs who took the initiative.

It reminded a little of how it looked on Thursday where Brynäs was the driving team. But against a top team that Frölunda will certainly be this season, an all the more disciplined game is required.

A lack of defensive play on the part of Brynäs, many times a little too simple carelessness, gave Frölunda exactly the opportunities they were waiting for. Among other things, Frölunda’s Isac Heens got a free position which Erik Källgren solved.

Källgren made several good saves in this match. Unfortunately, it was not possible to resist when Frölunda’s top chain Mikael Ruhomaa (goal scorer), Max Friberg and Linus Weissbach gave the away team the lead.

Brynäs did not bow down. The morale of this team is reminiscent of what we saw last year, that you don’t give up on a goal from behind. Brynäs had several nice attacks, one of which Oskar Lindblom sent a cool pass to Jordan Schroeder that goalkeeper Tobias Normann saved.

It got worse when Linus Weissbach also extended the lead in the middle of the second period. Every now and then an extremely difficult situation for Brynäs – because here the match could have gone off the rails and become a truly night-black event for the gävle team.

Brynä’s solution: Jakob Silfverberg

Frölunda’s Arttu Ruotsalainen goes out two minutes for holding. Brynäs takes the chance, Lindblom shoots at covering players, then it gets messy in front of Normann when no less than Jakob Silfverberg steps forward and scores the reduction goal.

The dream start thus continues for Brynä’s old golden hero, and there was more to come in this match:

After the goal, the home team flashed. Jack Kopacka shoots, Jakob Silfverberg (again) thunders forward, Oskar Lindblom tries his luck on goal.

When Charle-Édouard D’Astous’s shot misses, the puck ends up to Silfverberg behind the Frölunda goal. Silfverberg reads the game as another reads
daily, chooses to coolly hold the puck until Miks Indrasis ends up in the right position, and the match was tied.

There is so much brilliance in Silfverberg’s game that has so far lived up to the expectations that were already there before the season.

The home team started the machinery. Greg Scott serves on a silver platter to Anton Ohlsson who scores his first goal, 3 – 2. Then Bobby Trivigno gets a free position after a nice pass by Victor Söderström and extends the lead even further.

Oskar Lindblom scores 5-2 in the open box and the victory became a fact, even though Frölunda scored a consolation goal in the final minute in the power play.

Brynäs turned around and won the match and the home crowd chants:

OH, AH, SILFVERBERG!
