EGYPT on Thursday (26/9) expressed its support for all initiatives to achieve comprehensive de-escalation in the region. The Land of the Pyramids emphasized that the key to peace lies in stopping Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip, Palestine.

The Foreign Ministry’s statement came after a joint declaration from the US, Western countries and Arab countries, except Egypt, supporting a 21-day temporary ceasefire along the Israel-Lebanon border.

Egypt warned that Israel’s actions and violations were pushing the Middle East towards uncontrollable chaos and confrontation. This endangers the region’s residents, following the escalation of Israeli attacks on Lebanon, including the attack on Beirut, as well as Tel Aviv’s attack on Gaza.

The statement reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to working with regional and international partners in controlling the escalating conflict and urged an immediate, comprehensive and permanent ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also emphasized that the key to easing these tensions remains the cessation of Israel’s brutal aggression in Gaza and the implementation of relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

According to the US-based website Axios, American officials, Israeli officials and two other sources revealed on Wednesday that President Joe Biden’s administration is working on a new diplomatic initiative to temporarily halt fighting in Lebanon and resume ceasefire talks in Gaza.

Additionally, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot announced at the UN Security Council on Wednesday that France, in cooperation with the US, is drawing up plans for a temporary ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon to pave the way for negotiations. An announcement regarding this plan is expected to be made soon.

Israel has hit Lebanon since early Monday (23/9), killing at least 677 victims and injuring more than 2,500 people, according to data from the Ministry of Health.

The Lebanese resistance group, Hezbollah, and Israel have been involved in a cross-border war since the start of Israel’s attack on Gaza, which has killed more than 41,500 victims, mostly women and children, following a cross-border attack by the Palestinian resistance group, Hamas, on 7 last October.

The international community has warned that an attack on Lebanon could expand the Gaza conflict to a regional level. (Ant/Z-2)
